Potential sweep eludes Baysox

Baysox 2013IMG_9950For only a second time this season, the Baysox lost a lead after the seventh inning as Portland battled back to upend Bowie 5-4 in ten innings on Sunday afternoon.

Tied at 2-apiece in the seventh inning the Baysox grabbed the lead. With runners at the corners and two out DH KD Kang singled up the middle to score the lead run. Portland went to their bullpen but 3B Niuman Romero followed with another RBI-single and the Baysox led 4-2.

Portland battled back in the eighth inning. Reliever Juan Morillo who worked out of an inherited jam in the seventh inning, allowed a one-out walk followed by an RBI-double by Sea Dogs SS Derrik Gibson to make it 4-3. Releiver Chris Petrini came on but SS Deven Marrero tied the game with an RBI-single to center.

In the tenth inning Petrini walked the leadoff man RF Jonathan Roof. After a sac bunt and flyout, Roof was at second base with two down as Gibson batted. Bowie summoned RHP Fabio Castillo but Gibson singled to left field and Roof scored the winning run.

The Baysox got a strong start from LHP Eduardo Rodriguez. He worked 6 and 1/3rd innings allowing two runs on six hits in the no-decision. 2B David Adams extended his hit streak to seven games with a two-run home run in the second inning over the “Maine Monster.”
