Katy Perry thrills Verizon Center

| June 26, 2014, 09:52 AM | 0 Comments

Pop Star Katy Perry has been rather busy in our local area this week! First, performing two concerts in DC at the Verizon Center to sold out crowds, that helped raise and donate close to $44,000 for local DC classrooms and then still finding time to swing by the White House to take a “selfie” with Vice President Joe Biden.

The 29 yr old Perry performed her first of the 2 sold out shows from her Prismatic World Tour Tuesday in DC. The tour supporting her fourth studio album Prism actually started in May 2014 in Europe. This was the tour’s second date in America and was clearly a very fresh start to what will be a long haul through the rest of the US. With over 6 full wardrobe and hair/wig changes, you could tell she had this routine down! The large LED video screen in the shape of (of course) a giant a “prism” was breath taking, from the Egyptian images to the the absurd cat videos for her “Katy Cats” fans.

During her slowed down acoustic set for “The One That Got Away/Thinking of You”, Katy was happy to talk to the crowd for a while about following their dreams and how great it was to be back in America. Katy even mentioned how Washington was the heart of the country, or even the “jugular” and how we truly should appreciate our freedom.

As somebody who has honestly never owned a Katy Perry album, I was still easily entertained by knowing 95% of the songs as her top selling singles that dominate the charts on a yearly basis. Opening with some new hits off ”Prism” as “Roar” and “Dark Horse” to some of her now bubble gum pop classics “I Kissed a Girl,” “Hot N Cold,” and “California Girls.”

Her two encore songs were a mix of old and new. With her newest single “Birthday Song” really entertaining the crowd and then probably one of the most played anthems this coming 4th of July–“Firework” as her closing finale.
