Baysox 2013IMG_9956Making his debut with the Harrisburg Senators (30-38) Saturday night, Brett Brach dominated the Baysox over seven shutout innings in an 8-4 win. With the loss, the Baysox fall below .500 for the first time this season at 33-34. The Baysox have lost 12 of their last 16 games.

The Baysox bullpen again faltered, allowing five runs in the seventh inning to turn a 3-0 game in an eight run deficit. The Baysox offense also hit into four costly double plays, quickly ending any chance of a rally while the game was still within reach. Despite equaling Harrisburg with 12 hits, the Senators doubled the Baysox in score as Bowie hit just 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

Harrisburg struck first in the top of the first inning against Baysox starter Jake Pettit. Michael Taylor hit a lead off double to left-center field and scored on a one-out Cutter Dykstra double to left field to give the Senators a 1-0 lead.

The Senators added to the lead in the top of the fifth inning. Brian Jeroloman hit a lead off single to left field and Adrian Sanchez followed with a double to right field. Jeroloman scored on a Taylor single to shortstop that moved Sanchez to third base where he scored on a Caleb Ramsey sacrifice fly to left field to make the score 3-0.

Harrisburg blew the game open in the top of the seventh inning against Baysox reliever Chris Petrini. Petrini allowed two singles and a walk to load the bases and with one out, Dykstra singled to right field to bring home a run. Skole followed with a double to left-center field that cleared the bases and he moved to third base after a throwing error by Garabez Rosa on the play. Kevin Keyes brought Skole home with a single to left field to give the Senators an 8-0 lead. Reliever Marcel Prado replaced Petrini on the mound to finish the inning.

The Baysox got on the board to avoid the shutout in the bottom of the ninth inning against Harrisburg reliever Derek Self. Christian Walker drew a lead off walk and Michael Ohlman hit a one-out single to third base. With two outs, Chih-Hsien Chiang walked to load the bases and Rosa reached on a throwing error by the shortstop that allowed three runs to score. Neil Holland then came in to replace Self on the mound and he surrendered a single to K.D. Kang that allowed Rosa to score and make the score 8-4.

Pettit threw six innings and allowed three runs on five hits while striking out five and walking three in the loss. Petrini pitched one-third of an inning and allowed five runs on five hits while walking one batter. Prado pitched one and two-thirds scoreless innings, walking just one batter. Baysox reliever Steve Hensley pitched the ninth inning, allowing two hits.

Brach picked up the win for Harrisburg, throwing seven shutout innings and allowing seven hits while striking out two and walking one.

LHP Tim Berry (3-3, 4.15) takes the mound for the Baysox Sunday as the team plays the final game in a three game home series against the Harrisburg Senators. He will be opposed by RHP Brian Dupra (1-1, 4.50).

The Baysox are home through Sunday, June 15 for a six-game homestand against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats and Harrisburg Senators. The homestand concludes with the Father’s Day Celebration Sunday, June 15 beginning at 2:05 p.m.
