Bowie drops another close one

Baysox ImageNew Hampshire scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning to come from behind and beat the Baysox 4-3 on a rainy Wednesday night to hand the team it’s seventh consecutive home loss. The Baysox have lost three consecutive games despite carrying a lead or tie into the eighth inning of each game

Making a Major League rehab start with the Baysox, starting pitcher Miguel Gonzalez threw four and one-third shutout innings, allowing four hits and walking one batter while striking out five in the no decision. Baltimore Orioles outfielder Nolan Reimold was also making a Major League rehab appearance with the Baysox. He went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts.

The Baysox broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth inning against New Hampshire starter P.J. Walters. Ronald Bermudez drew a lead off walk and Niuman Romero followed with a single to right field. Dariel Alvarez brought them home with a two-out homer to left field to give Bowie a 3-0 lead.

New Hampshire came back to take the lead in the top of the eighth inning against Baysox reliever Zach Davies. Kevin Nolan hit a lead off double to left field and Melky Mesa followed with a single up the middle. Jon Berti then tied the game with a home run to left field and Ryan Schimpf kept the hits coming with a ground-rule double to right field. Hector Gimenez followed with a single up the middle that moved Schimpf to third base before reliever Steve Hensley replaced Davies on the mound. Hensley induced a double play, but Schimpf scored from third base to give the Fisher Cats a 4-3 lead.

In the final two innings of the game, the Baysox moved runners into scoring position with a chance to tie the game, but could not come up with the big hit. The Baysox offense hit 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position in the game.

Davies pitched two innings and allowed four runs on six hits while striking out two in the loss. Hensley pitched the final two innings and allowed one hit while striking out one.

Fisher Cats reliever Dustin Antolin picked up the win, throwing two innings and allowing one hit while striking out five and walking one.
