Toddler drowns while attending Glen Burnie birthday party

drowningOn May 3, 2014 at approximately 5:41 p.m., officers responded for a report of a drowning in the 1100 block of Marley Creek Dr., Glen Burnie, MD.

Upon arrival, officers located a four-year old boy who was not breathing. Adults were actively administering CPR. Paramedics arrived and transported the child to BWMC for treatment. The child was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival to the hospital.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the child was attending a birthday party with a relative. The party was being held in the front yard of the home. The child, who was a guest at the party, was able to get into the back yard which was secured by gates. It appears he then made his way to a small pier by Marley Creek.  After 3-5 minutes it was noticed that the child was missing. It was shortly thereafter that the child was observed floating in the creek.

Several guests rushed to the pier, jumped in and pulled the child to the land, where 911 was called and CPR was administered.

The Crisis Response Team responded to the scene to assist witnesses and family members. In addition, the Criminal Investigation Division responded and took over the investigation. Early indication is that this was a tragic accident.
