Within the past two weeks, detectives from the Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Intelligence Section received information that a female was inquiring about planning a kidnapping and homicide. An investigation was launched with the assistance of the Annapolis Police Department.
The investigation revealed that a suspect, later identified as Stacie Roberts, is the girlfriend of Savvas Pantelides. Pantelides is currently being held at the Jennifer Road Detention Center awaiting trial on robbery and attempted murder charges.
Detectives were able to confirm that Roberts was inquiring about having the victim, who is the primary witness against Pantelides, kidnapped so that he wouldn’t be able to appear at the trial and testify.
On May 5, 2014, a detective, posing as an outlaw motorcycle gang associate, met with Roberts. The detective spoke to Roberts about what she wanted done. Roberts insisted on several occasions that she didn’t want the victim to appear to court.
Roberts gave the detective the victim’s name, physical description and address. She also offered cash ($1,600.00) and prescription pills to have the victim killed.
After the detective finished speaking with Roberts, she exited the vehicle and members of the Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Special Operations Section took her into custody without incident.
The victim was not harmed during the course of this investigation.
“Our primary consideration in this case was the protection of the victim and state’s witness,” said Anne Arundel County Police Chief Kevin Davis. “Her plot was an assault against our nation’s criminal justice system and we are its defenders.”
After consulting with the Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office, the suspect was charged with Obstruction of Justice (Misdemeanor, carries penalty of up to 5 years/$10,000 fine), Induce/Inhibit Testimony (Misdemeanor, carries up to 5 years/$5,000 fine) and Induce/Inhibit Testimony Felony Offense (Felony, up to 20 years).
