Both County Executive candidates claim victory in the fundraising wars (POLL)

fundraiserBoth County Executive Laura Neuman and her opponent Steve Schuh are claiming victory in the fundraising wars with the recently release campaign finance reports.  Neuman claims she raised more money during the period; while Schuh says he has more and most of it is local.

However, when push comes to shove in a primary, the money (nor signs) will determine the winner. The winner will be the candidate that has identified the most individuals in the party that are likely to vote, and then vote for that candidate.

Schuh’s statement:

Anne Arundel County Executive candidate Steve Schuh has filed campaign finance reports with the Maryland Board of Elections showing he has more than $666,000 cash on hand compared to his opponent’s $257,000 for the final month of the election.

“We are pleased to be right on schedule with the resources we need to be successful in the June 24th primary,” Schuh said. “Eighty percent of my contributors are individual citizens spending their hard-earned money to support our grassroots effort. This is a great indicator of widespread support that bodes well for the election.”

The resources will be used to mobilize supporters and communicate Steve Schuh’s plan for a 3 percent property tax reduction, reducing fees and regulations and building smaller neighborhood schools. The Schuh campaign exceeded its goal for the last five months by raising $120,000 from 360 contributors.

More than 60 percent of Laura Neuman’s contributions came from developers and entities with pending business before County government.

“Developers have written large checks to fund Laura Neuman’s negative television campaign distorting my record,” Schuh said. “Voters should be very concerned about the influence these entities will wield should she be successful, or even in the six months following the primary if she loses the election.”

Neuman’s statement:

In the latest campaign finance reports, Laura Neuman out raised Steve Schuh 3:1, proving that our message is resonating with the voters who are positively responding to Laura’s leadership and conservative record.

With only 3 weeks left, our fundraising is stronger than ever, and Laura is very grateful to her supporters. From the start, Laura has said that she would not self-fund because she does not believe in buying a political office. She is raising money the hard-working way, one donation at a time, focusing on her message, and winning this election the right way – by earning the support of the people.

Finance Reports show:

Raised: Laura 373,000; Schuh 122,000
Spent: Laura 357,000; Schuh 356,000
Cash on hand: Laura 257,000; Schuh 666,000
Candidate Loans: Laura 0; Schuh 391,000

Both are factually correct.
