Baysox suffer power outage

Baysox 2013IMG_9949Looking for a season-high fifth consecutive victory, the Baysox fell short on Saturday night in Reading. A rare slow offensive night ended in a 2-1 loss to the Fightin Phils.

Bowie grabbed the lead early off of Reading starter Severino Gonzalez. With one down in the first inning, 3B Niuman Romero doubled near the line in left field. He would score a batter later when 1B Christian Walker doubled to left field to gain a 1-0 lead.

Baysox starter Anthony Vasquez worked well. He did allow a home run to tie the game off the bat of 1B Brock Stassi (4) to right field with two down in the first inning. An unearned run would score on an RBI-single from RF Cameron perkins in the third inning to give Reading the lead, 2-1. Vasquez went six innings, allowing six hits while striking out seven batters.

Off the disabled list, LHP Chris Petrini worked a scoreless seventh inning. It was his first outing since April 11th in Akron. RHP Steve Hensley worked out of trouble in a scoreless eighth inning.

But Bowie could not get it going offensively. Even a 24-minute electrical outage delay couldn’t recharge the Baysox. After the run scoring first inning, Bowie registered just one hit and did not advance a runner into scoring position
