Baysox 2013IMG_9997Baysox outfielder Dariel Alvarez helped spark the Baysox (23-20) with four hits, four runs scored and a career-high six RBI in a 14-3 win over the Erie SeaWolves (18-23) Monday evening.

Eleven of the Baysox 14 runs came in the first four innings as the team got off to a fast start against Erie starting pitcher Jeff Ferrell, who allowed 10 earned runs in three innings of work. It was the biggest offensive output for the Baysox since a 14-2 win over Harrisburg April 25.

Baysox starter Tim Berry picked up his fourth win of the season, throwing five innings and allowing one run on three hits while striking out six and walking two.

The Baysox struck first in the bottom of the first inning against Ferrell. Sharlon Schoop hit a lead off double to right field and scored on a Niuman Romero single to center field. Alvarez moved Romero to second base with a one-out single to center field and K.D. Kang followed with a double to right field to score another run. Michael Ohlman brought the final two runs of the inning home with a double down the right field line to give the Baysox a 4-0 lead.

Bowie added three more runs in the bottom of the second inning, all with two outs. Schoop drew a one-out walk and moved to third base on a Romero single to left field. Alvarez brought two runs home with a double to center field and he moved to third after a missed catch error on the shortstop. Alvarez then scored on a throwing error by the catcher on a pickoff attempt to give the Baysox a 7-0 lead.

Garabez Rosa gave the Baysox an 8-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning with a solo home run to right field.

The Baysox kept the runs coming in the bottom of the fourth inning. Romero and Christian Walker each walked to start the inning and Brennan Smith then replaced Ferrell on the mound. Alvarez followed with a three-run homer to right-center field to give Bowie an 11-0 lead.

Erie got on the board in the top of the fifth inning against Berry. Jason Krizan and Francisco Martinez each walked and Devon Travis plated Krizan with a single to left field to make the score 11-1.

The SeaWolves got another run back in the top of the seventh inning against Baysox reliever Juan Morillo. Craig Albernaz hit a one-out double to right field and moved to third base on a two-out single to third base from Marcus Lemon. Corey Jones brought Albernaz home with a single to center field to make the score 11-2.

Erie tacked on another run in the top of the eighth inning. Krizan hit a one-out single to right field and moved to second base on a wild pitch before Luis Ayala replaced Morillo on the mound. With two outs, Francisco Martinez doubled to center field to plate Krizan and make the score 11-3.

The Baysox offense kept chugging in the bottom of the eighth inning against Erie reliver Guido Knudson. Romero and Walker each walked to start off the inning and Alvarez brought a run home with a double to left-center field. Kang followed with a RBI single to shallow center field and the final run of the inning scored on a throwing error by shortstop Francisco Martinez to give the Baysox a 14-3 lead.

Morillo pitched two and two-thirds innings and allowed two runs on five hits while striking out four and walking one. Ayala pitched the final one and one-third innings and allowed one hit while striking out one batter.
