Lion DanceThe Jing Ying Institute of Kung Fu & Tai Chi is pleased to announce that World Tai Chi & Qigong Day will be celebrated this year on Saturday, April 26, 2014. In Annapolis, the event will be held at Annapolis Towne Centre from 10:00 am to noon. Activities will be on the grassy area by the fountain near P.F. Chang’s.

On the last Saturday of April each year, World Tai Chi & Qigong Day is celebrated in every time zone around the world. Starting at 10:00 am in the first time zone, and moving in a wave around the earth as 10:00 am reaches each new time zone, groups will gather to practice Tai Chi and Qigong.

The Jing Ying Institute of Arnold will kick off the celebration with a Chinese Lion Dance performance. Afterwards, there will be demonstrations of Tai Chi and Qigong followed by free mini-workshops suitable for all levels of fitness.

There will be an information table with handouts about the health benefits of tai chi and qigong, as well as coupons for free classes and other giveaways.

After the event ends at noon, Jing Ying Institute will perform the Chinese Lion Dance around the Towne Center.

Alternate Location in Case of Inclement Weather:

If it rains, the event will be held indoors at Jing Ying Institute in Arnold.

Tai Chi Benefits:

Tai Chi is believed to boost the immune system, slow the aging process, lower high blood pressure, relieve stress, and improve balance and coordination. For more details and links to research on the benefits of tai chi:

Free Workshop after the Event:

To provide more in-depth information about tai chi and qigong, a special 90-minute workshop will be held on April 30 from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm at Jing Ying Institute (it is free but registration is suggested). Visit for more information.

What is World Tai Chi & Qigong Day?

World Tai Chi & QiGong Day is held in the same month as World Healing Day and Earth Day. Tai Chi & Qigong groups gather in public places around the world at 10 am (local time) to exhibit Tai Chi & Qigong to the community.

Some purposes for holding this event:

1. To educate the world to the profound implications Tai Chi & QiGong can offer our personal, social and world health.

2. To thank Chinese culture for providing this powerful health science to the world.

3. To improve international relations by joining Tai Chi & Qigong practitioners around the world in celebration.
