SERC evening lecture series

| April 11, 2014, 09:18 PM | 0 Comments

SERCThe Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC) will be starting their lecture series on April 15th!

The free events will be held  on the third Tuesday of every month through November.  One of their ecologists will discuss their research—the Bay, climate change or something unexpected. There will be time for Q&A afterwards.

The link to the full public calendar is here .

Title: “Nonnative species in our midst: A curse or a blessing?”

Speaker: Dr. Susan Cook-Patton

Summary: Often we, as gardeners, are told to plant native species because they are better for the environment than nonnative species. We are also told that it is better to have a diversity of different plants across the landscape. Should we appreciate nonnatives because they increase diversity? Or should we try to get rid of them because they aren’t native?

When: Tuesday, April 15. Light refreshments start at 6:30, with the lecture at 7.

Where: Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, Schmidt Conference Center

Cost: Free
