County dispatches fire personnel to Alabama to aid in recovery

| April 30, 2014, 03:36 PM | 0 Comments

FD_BannerAs part of the Baltimore Regional Incident Management Team (BRIMT), Fire Chief Michael Cox sent seven personnel to the Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) in Anniston, Alabama, April 27 through May 3, 2014.

“This is a great opportunity for our personnel to remain proficient and our department to remain on the cutting edge of emergency incident and disaster management,” Chief Cox stated about the opportunity.

The BRIMT has been working in conjunction with theCDP in developing training to meet incident management team training and exercise gaps related to large-scale catastrophic events.  The Anne Arundel County Fire Department has been involved in the planning and development process of the training. During the week-long deployment, the entire team will pilot-test the newly developed training and exercise scenario that will culminate in the overall management of an Integrated Capstone Event (ICE) the last day of the deployment.

Upon approving the deployment, County Executive Laura Neuman stated, “This training is at no cost to the taxpayers of Anne Arundel County, and it complies with the 9/11 Act that requires states to ensure at least 25 percent of appropriated funding is dedicated to terrorism prevention planning, organization, training, exercise and equipment.”

The UASI program allocates funds to enhance regional preparedness in major metropolitan areas throughout the United States and directly supports expanding regional collaboration. The program is meant to assist participants in their creation of regional systems for prevention, protection, response, and recovery in all types of emergencies.
