Summit School highlights literacy

Summit Mid Reading PROn February 25th, The Summit School offered two special literacy-themed activities throughout the day to Celebrate 25 Years of Reading Success, which coincided, although a little early, with the national celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday: Read Across America Day. Nine USNA Midshipmen came to read their favorite childhood books to lower school students. Several midshipmen also led a discussion with the upper school students, encouraging reading and talking about their own school experiences. In the afternoon, Washington, DC-based storyteller, Jane Dorfman told Appalachian and Celtic folktales and short stories to the students. She used props and audience participation to present a lively and engaging program.

To commemorate its 25th year, each month, Summit has been presenting special events for its faculty, students and families, and also, for outreach, for educators and parents of struggling learners.
