St. Paddy’s Day festivities in Annapolis

St. Patrick’s Day in Annapolis is no longer a day. It has spread out to encompass two weeks! And Eye On Annapolis has the lowdown of the major events!

Parade

AnnapolisStPatsParade2013-54The 2nd Annual Annapolis St. Patrick’s Day Parade will kick off at 1pm on Sunday, March 9th.  The parade will feature about 100 different units ranging from service organizations to bands to car and truck units. The parade will start on West Street near Westgate Circle and wind up down at City Dock.  The official after party will be held at most bars in the area.  When asked about the reasoning behind having the parade a week early, John O’Leary (founder) said, “We are about bringing recognition to our warriors and helping out local businesses. No one needs any help on St. Paddy’s Day so we bring it in a week early to draw some better participants and to hopefully help out our local merchants during what is a slow time of the year.”  The parade is a fundraiser for Warrior Events which is a local all-volunteer organization that provides different activities and events to the wounded warriors returning from war. EntertainmentDublin 5 Schedule March 29014

Annapolis’ favorite Irish band–Dublin 5 has a full schedule and you will be able to catch them playing around town (and out of town) this weekend and next. Notably, they are hosting parade after-party at Armadillo’s Bar & Grill on Sunday and will be playing at Fado Irish Pub Annapolis on March 17th, before heading up to Maryland Live! for an evening performance.  With 4 days to clear the fog from their heads, they head to  the Shamrock Fest at RFK on the 22nd before hibernating until July and the Annapolis Irish Festival!

And lead singer, Ray Murphy will be performing all around the area this month as well.  Ray plays every Wednesday at Castle Bay Irish Pub (Main Street) at 7pm, every Thursday at Brian Boru in Severna Park. Special shows this month include this Friday (7th) at Killarney House in Davidsonville at 8:30pm and on Friday the 14th, he will be performing at Brian Boru at 9pm where he will be joined by  Jennifer Belle, of Dublin 5, on fiddle!

Events

aces from 2010On Saturday, March 15th, the Annual Green Beer Races will be taking place at the Eastport Democratic Club from noon (or thereabouts) to 9pm. The club, will host 4-person (2 men, 2 women), Bar/Restaurant, Relay, and Children’s (Kool-Aid) races in addition to the annual Men’s and Women’s Keg Toss.

The Event will feature a series of team relay races in which contestants will carry Green Beer on trays while completing a team course as fast as possible. The competition works like the NCAA Bracket and will consist of teams facing off in a single elimination setting, with the winning team of each race moving to the next round. Entertainment will be provided by the Eastport Oyster Boys and the Teelin School of Irish Dance.  Oh, and there will be green beer–in the tradition of Eastport…plenty of it! Not sure what to expect? We have you covered here, here, and here!
