St. Anne’s of Annapolis is hosting a talk by Matthew Kohut, co-author of Compelling People: The Hidden Qualities That Make Us Influential. The book was named one of the best Business Books of 2013 by Amazon. Free and open to the general public, the talk will take place on Tuesday, March 25th, from 7:00 to 8:30 pm in St. Anne’s Parish Hall, 199 Duke of Gloucester Street in Annapolis. Space is limited so please RSVP to Ginny at [email protected] by March 21st.

Everyone wants to know how to be more influential: most of us don’t believe we can have the kind of charisma we associate with a Bill Clinton or an Oprah Winfrey unless it comes naturally.

In his ‘compelling’ talk, Kohut will show that we don’t have to be born with magnetism, it’s something we can learn.

Drawing on cutting-edge social science research and work with Fortune 500 executives, members of Congress, TED speakers, and Nobel Prize winners, Kohut will reveal some of the secret techniques behind the success of people like Martin Luther King, Ann Richards and Denzel Washington. Drawing from Compelling People he will explain how we size each other up and how we can learn to win the admiration, respect, and affection we desire.

A founding partner of KNP Communications, Matthew Kohut has spent the past 20 years writing and preparing speakers for clients in the government, private and nonprofit sectors. He has also served as a communications consultant to organizations such as NASA, the Department of Energy, the EPA, and Harvard University. He is a Fellow at the Center for the Advancement of Public Action at Bennington College.

KNP’s work was the subject of a Harvard Business School success case study and they have collaborated with Harvard researchers on a study of nonverbal communication and leadership presence in politics with the results being featured in The Washington Post, NPR and other major media outlets. Matthew Kohut has appeared on most of the major media outlets.
