Delta Blues and Dylan Déjà-vu Fundraiser at St. John’s College

StJohnsCollegeThe Caritas Society of St. John’s College, Annapolis, presents the Delta Blues and Dylan Déjà-vu spring fundraiser at St. John’s College, featuring music performances by Erin Harpe and the Delta Swingers, an award-winning blues band from Boston; Washington, D.C.’s “First Lady of the Blues” Eleanor Ellis and friends; and Annapolis’ own The Basement Band, playing covers of songs by Bob Dylan and the Band. The concert, which will be followed by a reception with the performers, will be held on Saturday, March 8 at 8 p.m. in the Francis Scott Key Auditorium.

Erin Harpe and the Delta Swingers’ music is rooted in vintage 1930’s Mississippi Delta blues, and features original and classic songs that range from blues, soul, funk, and reggae. They are 2012’s Boston Music Award-winners for “Blues Artist of the Year.” A founding member of the D.C. Blues Society, Eleanor Ellis has been called the “preeminent acoustic blues guitarist of the Mid-Atlantic region.” She will perform with guitarist and vocalist Neil Harpe and renowned blues harp player Jay Summerour. The Basement Band performs music of Bob Dylan and The Band. Based in Annapolis, the group features blues-roots-rocker Dean Rosenthal, American roots duo Gary Wright and Leah Weiss, drummer Tom Fridrich, and bassist Jeff Muller. This festive musical performance is sponsored by the Caritas Society of St. John’s College, Annapolis.
