Todd Dwight Wheeler, Jr. was indicted today on multiple counts in connection to a bomb-making operation at a Glen Burnie home last month. The charges include nine counts Possession of a Destructive Device, nine counts of Manufacturing a Destructive Device, three counts of Possession of a Destructive Device, Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of a Machine Gun for an Aggressive Purpose and Reckless Endangerment.

On January 1, Anne Arundel County police responded to reports that Wheeler was injured and making suicidal threats. Officers located Wheeler at a Millersville home and placed him into custody for an emergency evaluation. At that time, officers observed an injury to Wheeler’s left hand consistent with a blast injury. Officers also noticed a chemical odor emitting from Wheeler.

On January 2, Anne Arundel County Fire and Explosives investigators, Anne Arundel County police and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives personnel executed a search and seizure warrant at 920 Edgerly Road in Glen Burnie. During the search, investigators discovered explosive materials, including powders, acids and tools that could be used to manufacture explosives as well as components used to manufacture improvised explosive devices.

Investigators also discovered multiple firearms and other weapons throughout the home, several hundred hypodermic needles scattered on the floors, furniture and counters, and unidentified materials and devices throughout the living area indicating there may be booby-traps in the residence. Due to the extreme hazards present and the need for safer daylight conditions, the search was suspended until the next morning, with fire investigators and police guarding the residence until that time. Wheeler was charged with possession and manufacture of two destructive devices and reckless endangerment and placed in police custody following his release from Baltimore Washington Medical Center.

Completion of the search revealed nine improvised explosive devices. Some of the devices, if detonated, could cause destructive damage and serious injury or death. Other items found inside the residence include, explosive chemicals, drugs and drug paraphernalia, what is believed to be a fully automatic sub machine gun, and numerous manuals and books detailing how to make homemade explosives, booby-traps and modify weapons to make them fully automatic.

Wheeler is held without bond following a bail review hearing in District Court in Annapolis this morning.
