Juvenile Arrested In String Of Riva Burglaries

crime iconDuring the last nine days, the Sylvan Shores Community of Riva has been victimized by five residential burglaries. Burglaries occurred both during the day and overnight hours, and included homes that were occupied while the suspect broke into them. The suspect stole various items including a 22 gauge rifle, a 9mm handgun, jewelry, electronics and money.

Southern District Detectives discovered that a former 17-year-old male from the area walked off from a group home in Southern Maryland just a day prior to the first reported burglary on December 30, 2013. Several community members reported to detectives that they had seen the juvenile in the area over the past few days. On January 1, 2014, evidence was recovered in the community linking the juvenile suspect to the crimes. On January 7, 2014, Southern District Detectives with the assistance from the Baltimore Police Department and the Anne Arundel County Northern District Tactical Patrol Unit were able to locate the suspect in a home in Baltimore City. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Detectives located additional evidence from the home the suspect was in, linking him to the burglaries in the Sylvan Shores Community. At this time, the suspect has been charged with two counts of burglary and two counts of theft with additional charges likely. This investigation is still ongoing and detectives are looking for the stolen guns and the other missing property. Anyone with information about these crimes is asked to call Detective Michael Krok at 410-222-1960.
