firecompanybellYesterday evening around 5:30 p.m., Anne Arundel County Firefighters were dispatched to a reported apartment fire in the 1600 block of Parkridge Circle in Crofton.  The first unit to arrive on the scene found an occupied three story apartment building with smoke showing and quickly requested a Working Fire Dispatch.

The fire began on the balcony of a second floor apartment and entered the living area where the early activation of the building’s sprinkler system contained the fire until the arrival of firefighters.  A 20 year-old male in the apartment at the time of the fire was uninjured.

A total of 35 fire department personnel were able to quickly bring the incident under control and contain the fire to the apartment of origin within 20 minutes.  The cause was determined to be improperly discarded smoking materials.

No additional residents were displaced and no injuries reported.  The resident were offered, but denied the assistance of Red Cross. The total estimated damage was $15,000.
