City Manager Mike Mallinoff Released By Mayor Pantelides

Michael-MallinoffAnnapolis Mayor Michael Pantelides has made another major personnel move this afternoon by releasing City Manager Mike Mallinoff from his position.  The City Manager’s position is an appointed position.  Mallinoff was appointed by former Mayor Joshua Cohen, so his departure is not too shocking.

Virginia Burke was hired last year as the Assistant City Manager and it is expected that she will assume the responsibilities of Mallinoff until a permanent replacement is found. While the City has not released any names for candidates, it has been suggested that Dave Cordle (former Alderman, Mayoral candidate, and Chief of Staff to County Executive Neuman) might be a replacement for Mallinoff.

However, last week, longtime Director of Planning and Zoning, Jon Arason was also let go from the City and the City is embarking on a nationwide search to find his replacement.

Mallinoff was the former City Manager of Newport, RI prior to coming to Annapolis.

During Mallinoff’s time with Annapolis, he hired Bruce Miller as Director of Finance. The two had worked together in Rhode Island. Sources in the Administration say that Miller has not received any promises for continued employment, but he is considered “mission critical” to the administration for the upcoming budget preparations.
