The public is invited to launch this year’s boating season along with Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum (CBMM) members, volunteers, and boatyard staff at an April 9 Blessing of the Fleet ceremony to honor CBMM’s floating fleet of historic boats, as well as other boats along the Miles River.
On-land participants will meet at 5pm on Wednesday, April 9 under the 1879 Hooper Strait Lighthouse, which overlooks the Miles River at CBMM. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be moved into the Small Boat Shed. Boaters are invited to pull up near the lighthouse from the Miles River, with docking for the ceremony based on limited availability and by reservation only.
The blessing will be performed by the Reverend Kevin M. Cross of The Church of the Holy Trinity in Oxford, MD. For docking information for the event, contact Visitor Services Manager Megan Fisher at [email protected] or at 410-745-4981. For more information, visit www.cbmm.org.
