Recent Crofton DUI Checkpoint Nets Three

duiKevin Davis, Chief of Police announced the result of the Anne Arundel County Police Department’s ninety-seventh checkpoint. The checkpoint was conducted last night along Robert Crain Highway (Maryland Route 3) near Maryland Route 450, Crofton, MD.

The checkpoint was in operation for approximately three (3) hours and 761 vehicles passed through resulting in three (3) DUI arrests and one (1) traffic arrest. Checkpoints are an element of the department’s comprehensive crash reduction strategy which combines prevention, education, and enforcement.

To date in 2013, Anne Arundel County has experienced several fatal DUI related crashes. Historically, DUI checkpoints and increased patrols have been an effective strategy for removing drunk and drugged drivers from the road and reducing related crashes. During previous checkpoints in Anne Arundel County, 75,165 vehicles have passed through the checkpoints resulting in 406 DUI arrests and 110 drug related arrests.

During this holiday season, citizens observing vehicles operated by suspected impaired drivers or in a reckless manner are encouraged to contact the Police Department by calling 911 or the non-emergency number: 410-222-8610. Please provide a description of the vehicle, tag number, and direction of travel.
