Mitchelle Stephenson, candidate for District 30B, the open single-member South County delegate seat, is announcing her candidacy at a Happy Hour fundraising event on Thursday, Dec. 5 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Bistro at South River Golf Club in Edgewater.

Stephenson is the co-founding editor of the South River Source.

“She has the interest, the drive, the personality, the veracity to be the best Delegate for District 30B.  I personally endorse her and wish her the very best.   You guys are so lucky to have her in your District,” said Ann Marie Remillard, former Democratic Central Committee Chair.

Stephenson is an experienced advocate for public schools, education, parental involvement and families. She has served at the local, county and state level for PTA for over a dozen years. She is also a small business owner (SouthRiverSource.com) and was the founding editor of AOL’s Edgewater Patch. Prior to that, Stephenson covered the South County community as a columnist for The Capital newspaper. She is a wife and mother of two daughters and lives in Edgewater.

“I look forward to meeting and listening to the citizens of South County on the important issues impacting Maryland families, including education, health care, veterans issues, public safety, rural heritage, agriculture, the environment and small business concerns,” Stephenson said.

Stephenson and her campaign team will be at the Bistro at the Golf Club at South River on Thursday, Dec. 5 from 5 to 7 p.m. for a candidate fundraising event and meet-and-greet. RSVP to campaign manager Laura Carr.

The District 30B seat is an open seat. It was redrawn in the 2012 round of redistricting following the 2010 US Census. It marries the western parts of South County, currently single-member District 33B, held by Del. Bob Costa, who is retiring. The eastern part of the seat is currently District 30, a three-member district held by Speaker Mike Busch and Del. Herb McMillan. The third member, Del. Ron George, is running for governor.
