Lights On The Bay To Light Up On November 23

| November 12, 2013, 11:52 AM | 0 Comments

IceCastle6-5-02Anne Arundel Medical Center’s annual holiday light show, Lights on the Bay, will open to the public on Saturday, November 23 and run through Wednesday, January 1, 2014.

Staged at Sandy Point State Park, the event features a two-mile scenic drive along the Chesapeake Bay with approximately 70 animated and stationary displays illuminating the roadway. With special glasses purchased at the door, secret 3-D images will appear within the displays. The show is open to drivers each night, including holidays, from 5 to 10pm, with more than 15,000 cars visiting the display each year.

In addition to popular classic displays that visitors have enjoyed for years, including a colonial village inspired by historic Annapolis and one of the United States Naval Academy midshipmen tossing their hats in the air, guests will also be treated to a new theme this year: “Under The Sea”.  This spectacular scene features a giant Spanish Galleon Shipwreck buried in the ocean floor surrounded with marine life consisting of Giant Waldo the Octopus and Friends Decorating the Deep Blue Reef Tree; Waldo the Octopus, Charlie the Crab, Eddie the Eel, and Smiley the Starfish; Penelope the Princess Clam and her Blue Reef Bottom Friends checking out the Santa Diving; and Manny the Man-O-War, Sally the Shrimp  and tropical fish.

Lights on the Bay has something for everyone in the family. Children can participate in a nightly scavenger hunt challenging them to find items within the show, answer display-related questions and enter a drawing to win prizes.  As always, Santa will make an appearance on Thanksgiving Day and every weekend through Dec. 24.

For both novice and experienced runners, AAMC and the Annapolis Striders will host their annual 5K fun run, “Dashing Through the Show.”  The 3.1-mile race will be held Friday, November 22 at 6:15pm. Runners should arrive at the gate one hour prior to the event to complete the registration/waiver. Cost is $14 per runner. For more information visit:

Sandy Point State Park is located off Route 50 at exit 32, near the Bay Bridge.  The show is open to drivers each night including holidays from 5pm to 10pm.  Admission is $14 per car.  Large passenger vans, mini buses and trolleys are $28.  Buses are $50. Discount coupons are available through local publications and at many retail locations.

Proceeds from Lights on the Bay enable not-for-profit Anne Arundel Medical Center to continue providing acute inpatient and outpatient care to more than a million people in the area.
