For the third year in a row you can buy original crafts and gifts by local artists, listen to live music, and view art demonstrations at the First Sunday Holiday Art Sale at Maryland Hall. Over 60 vendors will display handmade items perfect for those on your holiday shopping list, including jewelry, pottery, glass, clothing, cards, woodworks, home décor, and fine arts.
The festive event, held both indoors and outside in covered booths, includes face painting, food vendors, and music on the following schedule:
Indoor Music:
- Noon to 1:45 p.m. – Tom Lagana, jazz/classical guitar
- 2:00 to 43:45 p.m. – Mike Noonan, piano, and John Pineda, bass, playing jazz standards and holiday favorites
Outdoor Music:
- 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. – featuring Caleb Stine, Gary Wright, Leah Weiss, and Ahren Buchheister–playing American roots music, drawing from the rich traditions of Appalachian old-time and country music
“Besides finding unique gifts without fighting crowds at the shopping mall, this is a chance to get up close and personal with talented artists,” said the event coordinator, Pam Godfrey Stevens. “You can talk to them and find out how they made that fabulous fused-glass necklace or hand-turned wooden salad bowl. You learn their stories, get facts about the materials they use, and discover what inspires them.”
The artists and crafters hail from the Chesapeake region, including Annapolis, Baltimore, and the Eastern Shore. In addition to meeting the vendors you can watch demonstrations by Maryland Hall’s artists-in-residence, who are selected through a jury process for studio space they use to create their works and teach visual arts, such as painting and sculpture.
