Oil Painters Of America (OPA) Coming To Annapolis

This is the first time Oil Painters of America is bringing their prestigious organization’s exhibit to Maryland. Cynthia McBride said, “I am honored that McBride Gallery was invited to host the Eastern Regional OPA show this year. OPA is known for the high quality paintings done by their members. I have long supported and featured the art of representational painters, which is also the mission of Oil Painters of America.”

Three Days of Special Events – Master Painter, John Michael Carter

With a designation from OPA of “Master Oil Painter”, John Michael Carter will demonstrate his skills with a live portrait demonstration, 3:00pm Saturday, October 19 at McBride Gallery.

Meet the Artists

Oil Painters of American has over 3,400 members, only 100 artists had paintings selected by a jury for this exhibit. A number of the artists will be traveling to Annapolis for the Opening Reception.

The reception to meet the artists is Sunday, October 20, from 1 – 4 pm. Awards will be presented at 2:00pm the exhibit run until November 17th.

Host Gallery, McBride Gallery

Established in 1980, McBride Gallery, 215 Main Street in Annapolis is hosting the 2013 Oil Painters of America Eastern Regional show. Situated overlooking Chesapeake Bay, the historic city of Annapolis has been rated one of the country’s Top Waterfront Towns by National Geographic Adventure magazine and one of the Top Ten most walkable cities. The gallery is located in a charming Georgian-style home with seven rooms and the original colonial fireplaces.

Awards and Details

The focus in the jurying process is to select paintings that show the highest quality in draftsmanship, color, and composition, emphasizing a diversity in representational style and subject matter. The awards for this show will be approximately $11,500, including a $4,000 Best In Show. The Juror of Awards will be internationally renowned Signature Member, Nancy Howe

Oil Painters of America (OPA) was founded in 1991 by Shirl Smithson primarily to focus attention on the lasting value of fine drawing, color, composition and the appreciation of light.

OPA is the first national organization to be established for the sole purpose of representing traditional, representational oil painters.  OPA membership currently stands at 3,400 artists.
