A brand new exhibit will be on display at the Mitchell Gallery located on the St. John’s College campus from late October through December 13th. In addition to the exhibit, there are several social and educational events surrounding “Prints of Venice” exhibition.

Reflections and Undercurrents:

Ernest Roth and Printmaking in Venice, 1900-1940

October 25 – December 13, 2013

Ernest David Roth (1879-1964) was one of the most significant and influential American etchers of the first half of the twentieth century. His work included important and exotic views of the world, but his most important prints are those of Italy, which capture the essence of Venetian architecture in the clear light of the Venetian lagoon. This exhibition brings together 35 of Roth’s most important Venetian views, including variant printings of the plates, preparatory drawings, and the plates themselves, with prints by his most important artistic contemporaries.

Organized by the Trout Gallery, Dickinson College

This exhibition is generously supported by the Helena Foundation.

Emanuele Brugnoli (Italian, 1859-1944), Campo Santa Margarita (1920), Etching
