MD Black Caucus Foundation Legislative Weekend

Flyer_Job FairThe Maryland Black Caucus Foundation (MBCF) announces their 2013 Annual Legislative Weekend, entitled “The New Maryland: Changing Faces, Economy, and Priorities” at the Loews Annapolis Hotel located at 126 West Street beginning Oct. 31 to Nov. 2.

For the past eighteen years, the MBCF has partnered with the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland (LBCM) to host their annual weekend. The 3-day conference is designed to explore and adopt strategies in response to local and national events affecting Maryland communities. The caucus will discuss the most resounding issues that are impacting African-Americans and other minorities socially, economically, and academically. In addition to hosting a job fair with over 40 employers, the State of Black Maryland Town Hall meeting and several roundtable discussions, the weekend conference is designed to assist in the development and implementation of real solutions for the state.

Former president of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Rev. Dr. Gwendolyn Boyd kicks off the conference as the keynote speaker at the annual Interfaith Prayer Breakfast. The first day will focus on Business and Nonprofit Empowerment, offering discussions on green initiatives, wealth creation, business development, access to capital and other challenging issues facing Maryland’s African-American businesses and nonprofits.

On Nov. 1, the conference will introduce Healthy You: Health, Education and Employment. This day will feature Natalie Cofield, CEO and president of the African American Capital City Chamber of Commerce, and Dr. Claud Anderson, author of Powernomics, as the special guests for the Corporate Breakfast. Attendees will be able to participate in the fitness boot camp, fair workshops, and meet with over forty employers at the job fair. This day is also dedicated to commemorating the recent victory over the state for equal funding for historically black institutions during the Education Roundtable.

On the final day, Dr. Delman Coates will moderate the State of Black Maryland Town Hall meeting with the Coalition of Black State Troopers. This anticipated event will examine the pressing matters of race, ex-offender reentry in to the workforce and law enforcement.

These platforms allow the MBCF to bring together the diverse perspectives of public policy experts, organizations, as well as religious and educational leaders. With the informative tools and distinct experiences offered by the conference, attendees will be empowered to further enhance themselves, their business and their Maryland communities.
