UPDATE: The account has changed the privacy settings and the tweets are no longer publicly viewable on Twitter. The URLs of the tweets shown below are accurate. See screen capture below.

UPDATE: We contacted Mayor Cohen about this threat.  He was unaware of it until we brought it to his attention and said, “That is awful. I have asked Chief Pristoop to take all appropriate action.”  Chief Pristoop is the Chief of Police for the City of Annapolis.

Annapolis community activist (and former candidate for Alderman in Ward 3), Scott Bowling received a death threat today from an anonymous Twitter account using the moniker @ANPKingOfGeorge. The profile that accompanies the account states that ANPKingOfGeorge is an “Attorney, Democrat, Elected Party Leader, Lover and Defender of Democracy and our fair City, Historic (Colonial) Annapolis, Maryland USA.” The four tweets were sent between 122pm and 131pm today and appear to be in connection with a complaint Bowling filed with the Annapolis Board of Elections regarding irregularities in the campaign finance reports of  sitting Alderman Kenny Kirby (Ward 6). The gist of the complaint, as he testified at last Monday’s city council meeting was that Kirby’s campaign finance reports do not show any expenditures for the campaign, yet public evidence (signs, mailers, e-newsletters, legal representation) all come with a cost which should be disclosed.

Bowling was the target of this same account last month after filing another complaint with the Annapolis Board of Elections regarding the candidacy of  Kirby. At the time, the account claimed that Bowling had been arrested for theft and embezzlement, was being held in jail, and refused bond. Eye On Annapolis was unable to substantiate any of the allegations, and Bowling has been present at numerous public functions including offering testimony on his recent concerns to the City Council on October 14, 2013.

Bowling is no stranger to political attacks. A few days before the election in 2009 when Bowling was a candidate for Alderman in Ward 3, an attack flier was distributed throughout his Ward.  However, this election cycle, Bowling is not a candidate for any office and does not hold any appointed positions with the City.

Eye On Annapolis has reached out to the Annapolis Democratic Central Committee and Mayor Cohen for comment and we will update this story when a response is received.  In an email to Eye On Annapolis , Bowling stated that he would be filing a police report and requesting a complete investigation.
