Anne Arundel Community College architecture students won three state community college awards, including the top award for delineation presented by the Maryland State American Institute of Architects. AACC architecture students have won the top delineation award for three consecutive years.
Marci Kendall of Baltimore won first place for Excellence in Hand Delineation for her project, “Philadelphia City Hall,” a project in Assistant Professor Robert Lowe III’s Architectural Design 2 class. Bernard Jeffers of Severna Park won a Jurors Citation in Design for his project, “Rebounding Lands – Assateague National Seashore.” In addition, Frederick Gramlich Jr. of Pasadena also won a Jurors Citation in Design for his project, “Abstracting Assateague.” Both Jeffers’ and Gramlichs’ entries grew out of projects in Professor Michael D. Ryan’s Architectural Design 4 class where a focus on sustainability design is emphasized.
The awards were presented Sept. 12 at the Maryland State American Institute of Architects’ annual Design Awards Gala. The event was held at the new John and Frances Angelos Law Center in Baltimore to recognize the outstanding architectural achievements of AIA members and architectural students. Community college student winners were honored along with university and professional winners. The out-of-state jury was made up of a team of practicing professional and university professors from the Ohio Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
Kendall is continuing her architectural studies at AACC. Gramlich is building on his architectural studies and now is studying Construction Management at AACC. Jeffers transferred in May 2013 to University of Colorado Denver to continue his studies in Architecture.
AACC’s Architecture and Interior Design program includes degree programs in architecture, interior design and construction management, as well as certificates in architectural CAD, architectural illustration, construction management, construction entrepreneurship, interior design and advanced interior design and landscape architecture design.
