Partners In Care To Celebrate 20 Years With Gala Dinner On 21st

partnersincare5The public is invited to join Partners In Care (PIC) in celebrating 20 years of service to the community at a fundraising dinner at the Chartwell Club on September 21. The anniversary celebration is sponsored by The Bank of Glen Burnie and Right At Home.

PIC was founded in 1993 by local women interested in using an innovative time-bank concept to help older adults remain independent in their own homes and engaged in the community. The organization has grown from a handful of participants to include 2,400 members at four sites across Maryland.  Every month this year, PIC has honored one of its long-time volunteer members who earn “credit in the bank” for helping others, and in exchange, feel comfortable asking for help for themselves when they need it.

PIC services have expanded significantly. In the Ride Partners transportation program volunteer drivers use their own cars to take people to medical appointments and grocery stores. The PIC-Up Bus is a wheel-chair accessible, on-demand, fee-based service for those who can no longer ride in a volunteer driver’s car. In addition to its use for non-emergency medical transportation, the bus is available for hire for individuals and groups for recurring appointments, day trips, and social outings. In the Repairs With Care program, handymen and women make small repairs to help seniors maintain their homes. Care Management includes advocacy, helping people find benefits they are entitled to, and respite and support services to relieve some of the stress on caregivers. Emergency preparedness initiatives include Lifeline, the personal emergency response service, and Emergency Kits to help people shelter-in-place following a power outage or other emergency. The Upscale, Resale Boutique on Ritchie Highway is PIC’s thriving retail store in which approximately 80 volunteer members work flexible hours each week to collect, process and sell donations to help finance the nonprofit’s efforts. Warm Houses is the program in which activities are organized throughout neighborhoods to bring people together for socialization. PIC’s newest endeavor is the development of a local site for the national Coming of Age program. Coming of Age seeks to capture the skills and talents of older adults to help nonprofit and government organizations address community issues.

Tickets to PIC’s anniversary dinner on September 21 are $75 each or a table of ten for $725. A portion of every ticket ($25) is a tax-deductible donation to a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Sponsorship opportunities are available.
