Detective Injured In Pursuit Of Assailant

Deshawn JohnsonOn September 3, 2013, at approximately 12:14 p.m., Detective Joseph Goldberg of the Northern District witnessed a robbery of a citizen take place in the 6700 block of Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie. Detective Goldberg observed the suspect shove the 51-year-old male victim into the roadway and then remove the victim’s cell phone. Detective Goldberg immediately gave chase. Responding officers subsequently apprehended the suspect, identified as Deshawn Quinton Johnson, 26, of [blackout]4204[/blackout] Morrison Court in Brooklyn, Maryland, in the wooded area near Ritchie Highway and Wellham Avenue. Detective Goldberg sustained a minor leg injury during the foot pursuit. The suspect was charged with Robbery, Theft, Resisting Arrest and Reckless Endangerment.

The investigation revealed that the victim is a Loss Prevention Officer at the Office Depot located at 6623 Ritchie Highway. The victim observed the suspect exiting the store with stolen merchandise and followed the suspect to the corner of Ritchie Highway North. The victim confronted the suspect and started to call 911 when the suspect shoved the victim into the roadway and took the victim’s cell phone.
