BREAKING: Anne Arundel Resolves Leopold Lawsuit For $110K

Breaking NewsUPDATE:  Anne Arundel County Executive, Laura Neuman issued the following statement through a spokesperson.

We are pleased that this case has been resolved and we can put it behind us. This closes a sad and sordid chapter in our County’s history, but serves as the impetus for putting processes in place that guard against this in the future.

Eye On Annapolis has learned that the lawsuit filed against Anne Arundel County and former County Executive John R. Leopold has been resolved.  The suit alleged that Karla Hamner was wrongfully dismissed and suffered sexual harassment at the hands of Leopold.

While details are still coming in, Hamner and her attorney, John Singleton, had requested a trial date several weeks ago.  When the response came back from the county it was an offer of judgement against the County for $110,000 plus reasonable legal fees.

We spoke with Hamner this morning. “No woman should have to go through what I have been through the past five years. It has been a long, difficult, and emotional battle, but in the end, the truth always prevails. I pray that this judgment gives hope and courage to others who have endured similar circumstances.”

Hamner took to Facebook as well:

Singleton plans to file an offer of acceptance of judgement in federal court later this afternoon. There are still other suits pending against the County/former County Executive brought forward by other plaintiffs surrounding the creation of “dossiers” of political enemies.
