Annapolis Symphony Orchestra Prepares For Opening Night

Annapolis Symphony OrchestraThe Annapolis Symphony Orchestra’s (ASO) 2013-2014 season-opening concerts at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts will be held on Friday, September 27, 2013 and Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 8pm. Under the musical direction of Maestro José-Luis Novo, the ASO will be accompanied by acclaimed cellist Mark Kosower for these concerts which will feature Samuel Barber’s Second Essay, Edouard Lalo’s Cello Concerto, and Jean Sibelius’ Symphony No. 1.

Mark Kosower has received an Avery Fisher Career Grant, a SONY Grant, and has been a top prize winner in both the Rostropovich and Pablo Casals International Cello competitions. In addition to his international activities as a soloist and recitalist, Mark Kosower was named Principal Cello of the Cleveland Orchestra by Franz Welser-Möst, as well as teacher of cello at the Cleveland Institute of Music in 2009.  His previous posts include Solo Cellist of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra in Germany from 2006-2010, and Professor of Cello and Chamber Music at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music from 2005-2007. Mark Kosower began his cello studies with his father at the age of 1 ½, and later studied with Janos Starker at Indiana University and Joel Krosnick at the Juilliard School.

Adult tickets start at $25, and student tickets are $10. Tickets for these concerts can be purchased through the ASO website at www.annapolissymphony.org, by calling 410-263-0907, or by stopping by the ASO Box Office in room 204 at Maryland Hall in Annapolis, Monday through Friday, 9:30am – 5:30pm.

Concertgoers can also purchase a variety of subscription packages including a full Lexus Classic Series or three or four-concert FlexPasses. Student subscriptions are $50. First-time subscribers receive a 50% discount on Lexus Classic Series subscriptions in section B or C. Offer expires September 28, 2013.

All ticket holders are invited to attend a free pre-concert lecture in the auditorium at 6:45pm. Led by British pianist and lecturer Dr. Rachel Franklin, these entertaining talks enhance the concert experience by providing historical and insightful perspectives on that evening’s repertoire.

The Annapolis Symphony Orchestra features 70 professional musicians who perform a variety of symphonic music for audiences of all ages. Additionally, the non-profit organization provides educational programs through its partnerships with local schools, as well as various other community outreach efforts.
