Rock Cats Shut Out Baysox

Baysox 2013IMG_9704New Britain second baseman Eddie Rosario continued to torment the Baysox (67-65) Saturday, scoring both Rock Cats (61-72) runs in a 2-0 win a night after recording five hits and four runs batted in. The shutout loss was the Baysox eighth of the season.

Baysox starter Jake Pettit pitched six innings and allowed one run on five hits while striking out four and walking two in the loss.

New Britain struck first in the top of the fourth inning against Pettit. Eddie Rosario recorded the Rock Cats first hit of the game – a lead off single to left field. He stole second base and moved to third on a throwing error by catcher Luis Martinez before scoring on a Miguel Sano double to left field to give New Britain a 1-0 lead.

The Rock Cats added a run in the top of the eighth inning against Bowie reliever Marcel Prado. Rosario reached third base on a throwing error by Martinez and scored on a groundout by Chris Hanson to give New Britain a 2-0 lead.

Prado pitched tine final three innings for the Baysox, allowing one unearned run on two hits while striking out four.

In his first start back after a stint on the Disabled List, New Britain starter Alex Meyer pitched five scoreless innings, allowing one hit while striking out five and walking two in the win. Rock Cats reliever Dakota Watts earned his eighth save of the season, pitching the final two innings and not allowing a hit or a run while walking two and striking out four.

RHP Devin Jones (4-5, 5.45) takes the mound for the Baysox tomorrow as the team plays the final game in a four game home series with the New Britain Rock Cats. He will be opposed by LHP Pedro Hernandez (0-0, 0.00).

The Baysox are home through Thursday, Aug. 29 for the final eight game home stand of the season against New Britain and Binghamton. Highlights include Fan Appreciation Day Sunday, Aug. 25 beginning at 2:05 p.m. and Mutt Monday Aug. 26 at 7:05 p.m.
