Man Dies In Severn Trench Collapse.  A man trapped in a trench collapse in Anne Arundel County has died. Emergency crews were sent to the 1000 block of Layton Lane in Severn around 10 a.m. Officials said the victim, a 25-year-old man, was working in a 7-feet-deep trench when the dirt suddenly collapsed, burying him. It took about three and a half hours for crews from Anne Arundel and Howard counties to recover the man’s body.

NTSB: Bay Bridge Trucker Was On First Trip In US Alone.  The driver of a tractor-trailer that crashed into two cars on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, sending one into the water, was on his first trip in the U.S. without a more experienced operator, a preliminary report said Monday. The National Transportation Safety Board said the 29-year-old driver in the July 19 accident near Annapolis was employed by a Canadian carrier and was on his first solo trip in the United States.

3 People Injured In Shady Side Dog Attack. Three people were injured after a Shady Side dog attack, police said. Anne Arundel County police officers were called to the 4900 block of Filbert Drive in Shady Side around 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Investigators said a 29-year-old woman went to pet a 2-year-old pit bull/Labrador mix dog on a cable lead in the front yard of a home when the dog bit her and a 15-year-old girl who tried to stop the attack.

Smoke Prompts JetBlue Flight To Divert To Philly.  A Baltimore-bound JetBlue flight out of Boston was diverted to Philadelphia on Sunday evening after smoke was reported in the cabin. The airline said Flight 827 landed just before 6 p.m. Sunday and 95 passengers and four crewmembers were safely evacuated. No injuries were reported. (NOTE: Former Capital photojournalist Laura-Chase McGehee was on board the flight and was posting photos to her twitter account.)
