Neuman Promotes New Appointee To Controller After 3 Months

MussogCounty Executive Laura Neuman today announced the appointment of Julie Mussog to the position of Controller. Mussog, a Certified Public Accountant, with more than a decade in finance and problem-solving, will oversee the County’s Office of Finance. The Office of Finance is responsible for all aspects of accounting, general ledger control, financial reporting, debt issuance, investments, banking, accounts payable and revenue billing and collection. Ms. Mussog will also oversee a staff of more than 70.  She replaces Laureen Toney who was appointed Acting Controller upon the resignation of Rick Drain at the end of June.

Prior to her appointment as Controller, Ms. Mussog held the position of Special Assistant for Community Affairs, where she oversaw external stakeholder engagement for the Office of the County Executive.

“Julie represents a new highly versatile generation of financial professionals,” said County Executive Neuman. “Since the financial crisis of 2009, it’s no longer possible to sit in the back room and crunch numbers. This career has evolved and now demands social aptitude and the ability to manage projects and people, define strategies and present complex information to non-financial partners and departments. Ms. Mussog has all of these talents, and I’m excited that she will have the opportunity to utilize them in the Office of Finance.”

A graduate of the University of Michigan, having earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration, Ms. Mussog brings a specialized knowledge in how to reduce risks and maximize profits for organizations to this new position.

Prior to her work in County government, Ms. Mussog served as Chief of Staff for Delegate Herbert H. McMillan. She also worked as Corporate Controller/Vice President of Finance for EnhanceScape Corporation; Regional Finance Manager for Ryan Homes, Chesapeake Bay Region; Special Pricing Consultant and Finance Consultant for DELL, Inc.; Senior Financial Analyst for Delphi Automotive Systems; Senior Financial Analyst for Pulte Corp.; and Senior Accountant for PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.

Mussog makes her home in Annapolis with her husband, Michael, and son, Alex.
