Citizens Nab Purse Snatcher At Mall

photo-9A group of citizens gave chase after witnessing a purse snatching in JC Penney at the Annapolis Mall.  The group of men, caught up with the suspect in front of the Jennifer Road entrance to Trader Joe’s and held the suspect until police arrived.  The police release does not indicate that the group of men actually caught the suspect, tackled him and held him until the police responded.

Below is a copy of the police department’s release:

On August 10, 2013, at approximately 1153 am, officers from the Southern District responded to the JCPenney, located at the Annapolis Mall, 1695 Annapolis Mall for a reported Citizen Robbery.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim, 58 year old female from the Annapolis Area, who stated that she was shopping at the JCPenney and was in the shoe department. While shopping, the suspect approached her and engaged in conversation with her. The suspect then aggressively attacked her, punching her two times, one of them being in the face. The suspect then ripped her purse from her shoulder and fled the scene.

A group of males witnessed the incident and gave chase. Officers flooded the area along with an off duty officer. The suspect was apprehended in the area of Jennifer Road without incident. The victim did not sustain any serious injuries from the assault.
