Baysox Eliminated From Playoffs

Baysox 2013IMG_9611The Bowie Baysox (70-69) won game one of the doubleheader 8-2, but then lost game two 7-1 to the Erie SeaWolves (73-66) and were eliminated from playoff contention.

In the first game, the SeaWolves jumped out to the lead in the second inning.  Tyler Collins led off with a double and then James McCann homered to give the SeaWolves a 2-0 lead.

The Baysox took the lead in the fourth inning when they batted around and scored four runs.  Josh Horton led off with a double and scored on a Buck Britton RBI single.  After Caleb Joseph reached on an error, Seth Loman hit a two-run double to give the Baysox the lead.  Garabez Rosa added one more in the inning with an RBI single to make the score 4-2.

In the fifth the Baysox tacked on three more runs when Joseph and Loman hit back-to-back home runs to make the score 7-2.

Niuman Romero finished up the scoring in the sixth with an RBI single to make the score 8-2.

Jake Pettit got the win going seven innings and allowing two runs on three hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

Drew VerHagen received the loss going four innings and allowing four runs, three earned on five hits with six strikeouts and one walk.

In game two, the SeaWolves took the early lead scoring four times in the second inning.  Wade Gaynor walked and Marcus Lemon singled to put two runners on.  Then Luis Castillo hit just his second home run of the season to give Erie the lead. With two outs, Jamie Johnson doubled and scored on an RBI single by Eugenio Suarez to make the score 4-0.

Dariel Alvarez homered in the third to cut the lead to 4-1.

The SeaWolves tacked on runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to extend the lead to 7-1.

The win went to Matt Crouse who went 5.2 innings and allowed a run on seven hits with two strikeouts.

Devin Jones got the loss going four innings and allowing five runs, four earned on six hits.
