Lightning Likely Sparked Apartment Roof Fire. An Annapolis fire department official said a lightning strike likely started a fire in the roof of an apartment building. Battalion Chief John Menassa said a caller reported a fire alarm sounding at the building on South Cherry Grove Avenue on Thursday night. When firefighters arrived a few minutes later, they found fire on the roof. Menassa said the firefighters were able to put the fire out, but it burned away part of the roof and trusses.

2 Hurt In Possible Lightning Strike. Two people were hurt after a possible lightning strike in Anne Arundel County on Wednesday. Firefighters and paramedics were called around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday to the 100 block of River Drive in Annapolis, a community near the Severn River where two young men suffered life-threatening injuries. Authorities are investigating whether lightning is to blame. Anne Arundel County police and fire officials haven’t confirmed it was an actual strike, but witnesses said there’s no doubt in their minds.

Police Arrest Man In Assault, Robbery.  Anne Arundel County police said they have arrested a man who attacked and injured another man with a baseball bat during a robbery. Officers were called to Virginia Avenue in Glen Burnie for a robbery report around 8:45 p.m. Thursday. A 40-year-old man told police he was walking on Virginia Avenue and passed a group of people when he was suddenly attacked by a man who hit him in the head with a baseball bat and took the victim’s cellphone and a wallet.

National Aquarium Unveils Newly Renovated Exhibit.  One of the National Aquarium’s biggest and most popular exhibits has been closed since last fall, undergoing major renovations and upgrades. After 11 months, the Wings of Water exhibit has been transformed to represent a new body of water with old favorites and new additions. General curator Jack Cover said over 4,000 pieces of artificial coral were added to the new transformed piece, along with a new deep dive that creates an Indo-Pacific habitat with animals being introduced slowly.
