Delegate Dwyer Gets Crabbing Citation.  A Maryland state lawmaker convicted in a boating crash has been cited for illegal crabbing. The Capital of Annapolis reported that Delegate Don Dwyer, who last month was convicted of operating a motorboat while drunk, was cited in Sillery Bay this week. A state regulation, intended to protect the crab population, bans recreational crabbers from setting crabbing gear or crabbing from boats on Wednesdays. The violation carries a $500 fine.

Mother Killed In 295 Crash On Friday Afternoon. A mother was killed and her two children were injured after police said her vehicle veered across a median and struck oncoming traffic Friday afternoon in Anne Arundel County. The multi-vehicle crash happened on Route 295. The victim has been identified as Katherine K. Grooms, 41, of  Fort Washington.  She was pronounced dead at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Her children, Stephen, 9, and Gabril, 1 month, were taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital in unknown condition.

Ft. Meade Airman’s Body Found In Odenton Motel. Officials at Fort Meade are investigating the death of an airman, whose body was discovered earlier this week. Officials did not release the airman’s name, and said the body was discovered Wednesday. They said the airman was serving with the 70th ISR Wing at Fort Meade. The airman had been away at an off-base hotel on leave or temporary duty.

Gas Tax, Tolls Rising Today. The cost of driving in Maryland is going up this week. The state’s first gas tax increase in two decades goes into effect Monday, along with the second round of toll increases in less than two years. In another step designed to build infrastructure, the deadline for 10 of the state’s most populated jurisdictions to implement fees for property owners for stormwater remediation to fight pollution in the Chesapeake Bay also is set for Monday.
