‘Into The Woods’ Up Next At Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre

Into_the_Woods_1_hi-resNext up at Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre is “Into the Woods,” James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim’s familiar but fractured fairy tale. The show runs Thursdays-Sundays at 8:30pm from August 1-September 1. Tickets are on sale now.

The story centers around a Baker and his Wife who learn they’ve been cursed with childlessness by the Witch next door. The two embark on a quest for the special objects required to break the spell, swindling, lying to and stealing from Cinderella, Little Red, Rapunzel and Jack (the one who climbed the beanstalk). Everyone’s wish is granted at the end of Act One, and they seemed poised to live “happily ever after,” but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later, with disastrous results.

One of Sondheim’s most popular works, “Into the Woods” is a timeless yet relevant piece and a rare modern classic. It was last performed at ASGT in 2001. This summer’s production is adapted to feature as Narrator a young boy, played by newcomer Andrew Sharpe, who creates the story and characters in his imagination as a comfort after an argument with his parents.

Director Darnell Morris returns to ASGT for his fourth consecutive summer. He most recently directed 2012’s “Avenue Q,” which was honored as Best Musical at the 2013 Ruby Griffith Awards earlier this month. Morris also directed 2011’s “Hairspray” and 2010’s “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”. He’s joined by veteran ASGT Music Director (and actor) Trent Goldsmith.

Tickets are $20 each and may be purchased online with a credit card at www.summergarden.com. You may also reserve tickets by calling 410-268-9212. Reserved tickets must be picked up and paid for (cash or check only) by 8pm on show night. Read more about the production at http://www.summergarden.com/into-the-woods.html.
