Fire Department Releases Preliminary Report, Photos On Edgewater Marina Fire

At around 4:40 a.m. on Thursday, July 25, 2013, Anne Arundel County Firefighters were dispatched to a reported boat fire at the Oak Grove Marine Center located in the 2800 block of Solomons Island Road in Edgewater.  The first unit to arrive on the scene reported multiple boats docked at the pier well involved in fire.  In addition to the boats, the pier and items located in close proximity to the fire were also impacted. A single alarm response, along with two fire boats, brought a total of 48 firefighters to the scene who were able place the fire under control at 5:30 a.m.

Three power boats ranging in size from 30-42 feet in length were destroyed.  Due to the possible ecological impact from the loss of fuel, the Maryland Department of the Environment was requested to contain and mitigate the fuel spill. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation and no injuries were reported.  As of this time a total estimate on damage is not available.
