Bicyclist Killed In Severna Park

fatal-accidentOn July 17, 2013, at approximately 3:00 pm, officers from the Eastern District responded to the area of Baltimore Annapolis Blvd. and Berrywood Drive for a reported motor vehicle collision.

Upon arrival, officers located a bicyclist that had been struck by a dump truck.  The bicyclist was found lying in the roadway.  Witnesses stopped and attempted to render aid.  Because of life threatening injuries, the Traffic Safety Section’s investigators responded.

The initial investigation has revealed that the bicyclist, ridden by Thomas Patrick Heslin, 57, of Severna Park, was traveling west on Berrywood Drive.  The bicyclist failed to stop at a stop sign on Berrywood Drive at the intersection with Baltimore Annapolis Blvd.  As the bicyclist entered the intersection, he failed to yield the right of way to the dump truck, operated by Ronald Dwight Bolin, 43, of Annapolis,  which was traveling north on Baltimore Annapolis Blvd.  The driver of the dump truck attempted to avoid striking the bicyclist but was unable to. The dump truck is owned by Cole Ventures Inc. of Annapolis

Preliminarily, neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors in this crash.  The Traffic Safety Section is continuing the investigation.
