Baysox Dominance Over Squirrels Ends

Baysox 2013IMG_9930The Bowie Baysox (50-47) six-game winning streak against the Richmond Flying Squirrels (45-53) came to an end on Thursday night as they fell 6-3.

The Flying Squirrels struck first in the bottom of the first inning.  With two outs and no one on, Adam Duvall walked and Mark Miniozzi singled.  Then Angel Villalona brought them both home with a two-run double to make the score 2-0.

In the second, the Baysox got a run back.  Christian Walker led off with a double and went to third on a sacrifice bunt by Garabez Rosa.  Then Josh Horton knocked him in with an RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1.

The Squirrels answered back in the bottom of the third.  Skyler Stromsmoe drew a one out walk and went to second on a wild pitch.  Mark Minicozzi then hit a two-out RBI single to make the score 3-1.

In the seventh the Squirrels broke the game open with three more runs.  Javier Herrera and Stromsmoe started the inning off with back-to-back home runs.  With one out, Minicozzi doubled and Villalona knocked him in with an RBI single to make the score 6-1.

In his return from the disabled list, Brian Ward knocked in a run in the ninth inning with an RBI double.  Chris Pettit then followed with an RBI single to bring home Ward and make the score 6-3.

Edwin Escobar got the win going 6.2 innings and allowing one run on six hits with eight strikeouts and no walks.

The loss went to Eduardo Rodriguez who went five innings and allowed three runs on four hits with seven strikeouts and five walks.

The team’s will lock up for their second straight Friday night doubleheader tomorrow.  In game one, RHP Tyler Wilson (4-1, 2.17) will take on LHP Jack Snodgrass (7-4, 3.47). Then in game two, LHP Trent Howard will make his Double-A debut against LHP Ryan Bradley (0-5, 6.75).
