Alzheimer’s Association

The Alzheimer’s Association is a nonprofit organization which seeks to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through advancement of research, to enhance care and support for individuals, their families and caregivers, and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health. Volunteer opportunities include: office & clerical assistance including data entry and mailings, helpline specialist, Partners in the Arts Coordinator, all at the Timonium location, as well as community outreach representatives including those to attend Health Fairs and speakers, and family support group facilitators in Anne Arundel County.  In addition, volunteers are welcome to join our team at fundraising events such as Walk to End Alzheimer’s, and Memory Ball.  Training and materials are provided for all positions. Anacostia Watershed Society

This non-profit volunteer organization seeks volunteers, age 7 and up, to help with restoring, enhancing, and otherwise improving the Anacostia River watershed with projects including river cleanups, tree plantings, wetland plantings, and meadow restoration. Annapolis Film Festival Filmsters Academy, July 27-Aug. 9, 2013

FILMSTERS Academy is set to begin its 12th year in Annapolis this summer. Celebrating digital literacy and creativity through the art of filmmaking, this camp allows kids 11-20 years of age to pitch, write, produce, shoot, edit, and learn how to do make-up, costumes, props, stunts, special effects and how to act in their own short films. The film camp will again be held on the campus of Key School in Annapolis, MD. from July 27- Aug. 9, 2013. There are three levels of instruction Beginners (11-15), Intermediates (13-16) and Advanced (16-20) to explore. Limited enrollment. If you have a creative child who would like to explore the world of music, acting, screenwriting, cinematography, production design, film editing, producing and directing FILMSTERS Academy will be a wonderful experience to try out many aspects of visual storytelling. Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating Fourth Sundays Apr.–Oct.

CRAB promotes the joy of sailing in specially modified boats to persons with disabilities and their families. CRAB volunteer skippers, crewmembers and dockhands offer monthly “SailFree” events every fourth Sunday of the month from April through October from 10 am-4 pm at the Marina at Sandy Point State Park. Volunteers are needed year round as members of the Board of Directors, to assist with sailing programs for children of Central Special School and MD School for the Blind, fleet, & equipment maintenance, and more. Creating Communities, Arts Mentorship Academy, Jun. 24-28, 2013

The nonprofit organization’s goal is to build life skills and self-esteem and foster connections across cultures. Creating Communities is seeking adult volunteers for the 2013 Creating Communities Arts Mentorship Academy June 24-June 28, 2013 at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts and Annapolis Middle School. The Arts Mentorship Academy offers intensive arts instruction and mentorship to economically-disadvantaged yet talented public school students. The program is 100% scholarship and students receive dance, art, music, photography and drama instruction as well as t-shirts, artistic performances and meals. Volunteers are needed for set-up, attendance, class monitoring, artist helpers, transportation and more. Food Link

Established in 1991, this non-profit hunger relief organization provides free food and other essentials to people in need in Anne Arundel County and four counties on the Eastern Shore. Volunteers with trucks or vans are needed to pick up food from distribution centers, restaurants and others and deliver to food pantries, shelters and other locations serving the hungry, and assist with emergency food pantry and emergency baby pantry items. Legacy Leadership Program, The University of Maryland
The University of Maryland’s Legacy Leadership Institute on Public Policy  in partnership with the State of Maryland is looking for volunteers 50+ in age to serve as volunteer legislative leaders during the 2013-14 session of The Maryland General Assembly. Classroom training begins in September for ten (10) weeks, two days per week at the College Park campus, with site visits to the State Complex in Annapolis. The volunteer assignment will be for a minimum of two (2) days per week beginning in January 2014 in the Annapolis office of various Senators and Delegates. Maryland Hunger Solutions

Maryland Hunger Solutions is looking for friendly, enthusiastic individuals over the age of 18 to volunteer at mobile meal sites serving children one day a week, from 11AM-2PM, in Anne Arundel County and Baltimore City. Volunteers are asked to commit to one 11AM-2PM shift, one day a week on Monday-Thursday, during the months of June, July, and August. Volunteers will travel to three different mobile meal sites and serve nutritious meals to children and implement fun activities at the sites focused on nutrition education and healthy eating.

Additional volunteers are needed to canvass around summer meal sites in June providing individuals with flyers and outreach materials to promote summer meal sites; these volunteers are asked to commit to one 2-3 hour time slot during the month of June. Opportunities are available in Anne Arundel County, Tues., Jun. 11, 2013 from 9 AM-12PM. Salvation Army KaBoom Playground Project, Jun. 12-14, 2013

The Salvation Army-Annapolis Corps, along with Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE), and KaBOOM!, will build a new playground at The Salvation Army facility at 351 Hilltop Lane, Annapolis 21403. The project will be volunteer-built in one day, preceded by one and possibly two prep days. Volunteers are needed on Wed. Jun. 12 and possibly Thurs., Jun. 13, for preparation work to make ready for build day on Friday, Jun. 14.
