OCEAN Quartet Celebrates Summer Solstice At 333 Coffeehouse In Annapolis

| June 16, 2013, 11:14 AM | 0 Comments

OceanQuartet.AndrewThe Summer Solstice is the longest day and shortest night of the year.  It was celebrated throughout the ancient world, and calculated at observatories such as Stonehenge.  Celebrate the official beginning of summer on Friday evening, June 21, with a high-spirited concert by the OCEAN Quartet, whom Eye on Annapolis has called “Washington’s most prominent Celtic fusion group.”  With soaring vocals and atomically-charged instrumentals, OCEAN will pay tribute to the Summer Solstice with a special helping of seasonal songs, lore and plenty of blazing jigs and reels. The 333 Coffeehouse is at the Annapolis Friends Meeting at 351 Dubois Road, Annapolis, MD 21401. Admission is $10/$8 for seniors and students. Show time is 7:30 p.m. For information call (443) 333-9613

Jennifer Cutting (accordions, piano, artistic director), Lisa Moscatiello (voice, guitar, whistle), Andrew Dodds (fiddle), and Steve Winick (voice) are known for their goosebump-raising performances and surprise-filled repertoire.  Composer and ethnomusicologist Jennifer Cutting culls through the Library of Congress’s Folk Archive to find rare ballads and tunes, giving them shimmering new musical shapes. Vocalist Lisa Moscatiello has a voice that Billboard magazine has called “one of the most gorgeous vocal instruments in all of folk-tinged pop.”  Award-winning Andrew Dodds is a fiddle virtuoso in the lineage of Scotland’s most esteemed traditional musicians. Steve Winick’s earthy baritone and powerful delivery will root you to the spot. The Washington Post calls OCEAN “Nothing short of spellbinding….” Fall under their spell at this special Summer Solstice concert!   www.oceanorchestra.com
