Chesapeake Life Center Hosting Bereavement Camps This Summer

hospiceThe Chesapeake Life Center is offering a “What Grief Teaches” workshop for ages 18 and up from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on June 26 and again on Aug. 21. A Widow/Widowers drop-in support group for career-aged adults who are grieving the death of a spouse or life partner will meet from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on June 19. Both groups will meet at the Annapolis location, 445 Defense Highway.

The Chesapeake Life Center is now registering participants for Camp Nabi and Phoenix Rising. Held simultaneously at the Arlington Echo Outdoor Education Center, both programs will take place the weekend of Aug. 9 – 11, 2013. For one weekend during August, Chesapeake Life Center staff and trained volunteers give grieving children and teens the gifts of hope and healing.

Camp Nabi, a weekend camp for grieving children ages 6 to 13, provides time for children to share their stories, play and work together and enjoy canoeing and swimming. Camp Nabi has served more than a thousand children and adolescents since opening the program 20 years ago.

Phoenix Rising is a weekend retreat for teens who will explore coping strategies while making new friends and participating in activities. Since its beginning 10 years ago, the camp has served hundreds of teens from both counties.

Both camps provide a challenging and interactive program supported by a professional staff and team of trained volunteers to help participants process their grief in a safe, accepting environment.  Arlington Echo Outdoor Education Center is located at 975 Indian Landing Road in Millersville.

For more information on the camps and the support groups, contact the Chesapeake Life Center at 410-987-2129 or visit www.chesapeakelifecenter.org.
