Baysox Shutout Reading

BaysoxBehind seven shutout innings from Eddie Gamboa, the Bowie Baysox (30-31) tossed their second shutout of the 2013 season and beat the Reading Fightin Phils (24-39) 6-0 on Wednesday night.

The Baysox struck first in the top of the fourth inning.  With one out, Niuman Romero and Henry Urrutia hit back-to-back singles to put runners at the corners.  Caleb Joseph then hit into a fielders choice that scored Romero and gave the Baysox a 1-0 lead.

In the seventh inning the Baysox added another run.  They loaded up the bases on three straight singles by Urrutia, Joseph and Brandon Waring.  Then with one out, Garabez Rosa hit into a fielders choice that brought home Urrutia and made the score 2-0.

The Baysox broke the game open in the eighth inning.  Steven Bumbry led off with a single and went to third on a throwing error by the pitcher Hector Neris.  The next batter, Ty Kelly knocked him in with an RBI single.  After Romero grounded out, Urrutia drew a walk to put two runners on.  Joseph then blasted a three-run home run, his 13th of the season to open up a 6-0 Baysox lead.

Eddie Gamboa got the win tossing seven shutout innings and allowing just three hits with six strikeouts and three walks.

Major league rehabber, John Lannan picked up the loss going seven innings and allowing two runs on seven hits with one strikeout and one walk.

The teams will wrap up the three-game set tomorrow evening at 7:05 p.m. when RHP Mike Wright (6-0, 3.86) will take on RHP Brody Colvin (2-0, 5.33).
