2nd Annual 5K For The Bay Set For June 22

5KForTheBayOn Saturday, June 22, the Chesapeake Bay Trust will host its Second Annual 5K for the Bay at Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis.  This 3.1 mile run/walk, sponsored by the Chesapeake Bay Roasting Company, will start at 8:30 am with all proceeds benefitting Chesapeake Bay restoration and education. In total, more than 350 runners are expected to attend this year’s event to be held rain or shine.  Registration is $30 per runner and kids 12 and under are free.  Leashed pets and jogging strollers are welcome and participants can register online at www.cbtrust.org/5KfortheBay.

“We are really looking forward to this year’s 5K for the Bay,” said Molly Alton Mullins, the Chesapeake Bay Trust’s director of communications and race director. “Our 5K for the Bay is a wonderful opportunity for the whole family to come out, get some exercise at one of Maryland’s most beautiful parks, and support a great cause we all care deeply about—restoring our beloved Chesapeake.”

The first 350 individuals to register will receive a tee shirt and water bottle, so pre-registration is encouraged. There is a discount of 20 percent for groups of five or more which makes this event an excellent venue for local businesses, churches, schools and organizations to put together teams to compete.  There will be prizes for the fastest male and female runners in multiple age categories and pre-race packet pick-up will take place Friday, June 21 from 3-6 pm at Fleet Feet in Annapolis.

“We are so thankful to our sponsors who made this year’s 5K possible, especially the Chesapeake Bay Roasting Company for their fantastic support and partnership,” continued Alton Mullins. “We are really excited to put together an outstanding race with official timing chips, premier coffee and breakfast available, and a fun appearance from “Rocko,” the Bowie Baysox’s Chesapeake Bay-themed mascot who will help our racers get started.”

In addition to the Chesapeake Bay Roasting Company, 2013 race sponsors include Wegmans, Panera, Fleet Feet Annapolis, Bowie Baysox, Greenlayer, Annapolis Irish Festival, JEB Design, eCruisers LLC, and the Bay Green Foundation who have donated in-kind services, monetary contributions and overall race support.
